Menorah Intergenerational Garden
This outdoor courtyard garden is located in at the Menorah Park Center for the Aging. We worked with staff physical therapists and a horticultural therapist to develop a space that would encourage outdoor activity and intergenerational interaction between the elderly residents and children from the on-site child care center. We designed raised wooden planting tables to bring the ground upward to a height, which can be used by less mobile standing residents, or in wheelchairs. These tables and a worktable with a storage cabinet were designed as trellis-like structures to appear sculptural, even in the winter months. Also included were timber planters, ground level beds surrounded with concrete for access, water faucet and irrigation system. An existing concrete patio was expanded to provide space for umbrella tables and chairs.
