Kirtland Streetscape

At the city’s request, our design team sought to create a unified identity for Kirtland’s ‘downtown’ streetscape. This unique district is home to several historic tourist attractions including the Mormon Temple and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Historic Village. The ‘downtown’ area also contains Kirtland’s schools, library, city hall, and commercial properties. The project commenced with a site inventory and analysis. Using this data, general recommendations were established addressing aesthetic concerns and vehicular/pedestrian circulation issues. These guidelines aided in unifying the varying uses both physically and visually. Suggestions were also made regarding site furniture, lighting, street trees, and plantings. Several of these improvements have been implemented with combined public and private funding.
